Letter from the Chairman - 2009

The Radiation Oncology Department at Morristown Memorial Hospital has distinguished itself as the foremost provider of advanced cancer care in the tri-state region over the last decade.   Last year, was an incredible year for our scientific program, primarily because the experience has been very fulfilling.  We are very proud and honored to share with you that our cancer research initiatives have resulted in recognition from The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).

Our ongoing commitment to cancer technology research has resulted in acceptance of all five research abstracts submitted by our team being accepted by ASTRO.   The hallmarks of our incredible year at the Radiation Oncology Department have been the expansion of our patient base while pursuing the latest cancer treatment technology. We can boast of an average patient satisfaction rate of 95%.

Our extensive scientific work has enabled us to advance the state of clinical knowledge on the use of Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT.)  We have obtained international recognition for our achievements.  Our IGRT utilizes a state-of-the-art image recognition system to increase the efficiency and accuracy of radiation treatment, resulting in unsurpassed clinical outcomes.

We will continue our active involvement in clinical research and we will explore and study innovative treatment techniques.  Plans are on the initial development for the implementation of robotic technology in our department.

We have gained great distinction for this healthcare facility.  I am deeply grateful to the many passionate and talented staff members who have contributed to these accomplishments.  Our progress reflects the collective passion and spirit of this special community.

These accomplishments are moving us towards our goal of becoming one of the best known and most respected Radiation Oncology departments in the country.
